Google’s tablet journey could end with the first Pixel Tablet that was announced in 2023. That’s right, we might never see a Pixel Tablet 2 or 3 version in the market, according to new reports. The company’s tablet focus has been wavering for years and it seems that Google is now moving to other projects rather than invest its resources and money in a segment where it continues to falter against the might of the iPads. The Pixel Tablet 2 launch was recently said to be in the plans, but these new developments clearly have poured water in those expectations.

Pixel Tablet 2 Cancelled, What Happens Now

The details about Google’s plan to shelve the Pixel Tablet series comes via Android Authority. The company has asked the internal team working on tablets to focus on other projects. Google’s tapered interest in the tablet is nothing new, and the fact that Pixel Tablet didn’t get a wider release suggests the brand is happy to invest its future in other categories.

The update did come as a surprise to us, simply because another report tipped the launch of Pixel Tablet 2 in 2025 with a more powerful Tensor G4 chipset and support for the Gemini AI features. So, if Google has supposedly canned the Pixel Tablet 2, then what are the chances of a Tablet 3 coming out ever.

Having said that, we did hear Google might merge ChromeOS with Android for a new platform that may run on a Pixel laptop, so that could be the reason for the tablet lineup going on the backburner once again and this time, it may never see the light.

The company does intend to make new Pixel phones, and the Pixel 9a could be the first to roll out in 2025. That’s not all, Google has already offered the Android 16 developer preview version, so a full release is expected in late Q1 2025 which is much earlier than its older versions.
