Facial recognition, social media scans and robodogs: How AI is aiding Trump’s immigration crackdown
The first big security risk for Chrome users in February has been warned by the Indian government and it is specially for those using the web browser on their Windows or macOS systems. The major risk alert has been issued by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) and the high severity rating for the new risk means people have to be careful about the latest threat and avoid doing anything rash to get targeted by the hackers.
The CERT-In bulletin has explained the risk associated with Chrome and which devices are at risk from the security issues. “Multiple vulnerabilities exist in Google Chrome due to Use after free in Skia, V8 and Inappropriate implementation in Extensions API."
These are some of the most important components in the Chrome browser and any possible exploits because of the issues can be dangerous for the users. “A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by persuading a victim to visit a specially crafted web page," the note adds. What happens when these hackers have this level of access to your device? They can steal your data, get hold of personal information and even clean up your bank accounts.
The security agency is clearly telling us which users will be vulnerable to these hackers and these Chrome versions need immediate attention:
– Google Chrome versions prior to 133.0.6943.53 for Linux
– Google Chrome versions prior to 133.0.6943.53/54 for Window and Mac
The fact that Windows, Mac and Linux Chrome users are at risk means millions of devices need to be checked for the versions and make sure you update to the safest Chrome version right away.
You can do this by heading over to the three-dot menu on Chrome – Settings – About – Update Chrome. Google has listed the security fixes that come with the stable channel update.
