Apple could finally release a revamped Mail App for the iPad and iMac users with the new macOS 15.4 update expected to roll out in April this year. The report from Bloomberg says the update will introduce a feature that automatically sorts emails based on their categories, something that Gmail has offered for years.

Once enabled, the functionality will scan your emails and categorise them into four tabs: primary, transactions, updates, and promotions. Users will also be able to view all emails in a single inbox.

As per the report, users will be pleased to know the update might not require an Apple Intelligence compatible device, which means people who still have older iPads and Macs will also get benefit of this feature. Notably, the feature may not function if the received emails are not in English language.

Apple has already begun beta testing macOS 15.3, which includes a few missing features such as Genmoji for Mac devices. However, the revamped Mail app is still unavailable. According to Gurman, this will change soon with the next macOS 15.4, which is scheduled to reach beta in the coming weeks.

The iPhone version of the Mail app already comes with features like Smart Replies which analyses your email content and generates quick responses. Also, it has priority messages feature which, as the name implies, displays the most important mails on the top of the inbox. These features help to streamline email management for users.

The updated Mail app was first introduced at the 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). During this event, Apple released iOS 18 and its new artificial intelligence (AI) suite named Apple Intelligence. The company brought significant changes to the Mail app, including AI tools that can automatically categorise emails based on priority and kind.

However, apart from this, the upcoming iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4 and macOS Sequoia 15.4 will also bring the much awaited, context aware Siri update. Reports say Siri will be able to understand what’s on the user’s display and would respond appropriately. It will also collect personal information, such as SMS and calendar events. Also, we might see Siri work Google’s Gemini AI in the near future.
