Some Facebook users took to Reddit on Monday to claim that their Facebook accounts follow profiles of Donald Trump and JD Vance, even though they themselves did not follow those pages.

“Never once have I followed any Trump or White House pages. My feed is now filled with the official posts," Reddit user u/kyyamark posted on the Facebook subreddit.

“All of a sudden I was following Donald and his wife on fb. Everyone check your page because a few people are saying the same thing and I sure as hell have never looked at their pages. Hoping I took care of that problem," posted another user on Facebook.

On another subreddit named r/millenials, user u/Piper_Dear claimed: “Facebook made my profile auto-follow Trump".

The user also claimed that attempts to unfollow the page were futile.

News18 could not independently verify these claims.

According to tech news portal TechIssuesToday, in most cases, people are possibly talking about the POTUS account, not Trump’s personal Facebook page. The POTUS account automatically updates when the Presidency changes hands. So, if they were following President Biden through the POTUS account, it now shows President Donald J. Trump’s name. The same applies to the Vice President and First Lady accounts.

Their report said that this could mean that Facebook isn’t actually making users follow Trump, Vance or the First Lady. But it also said that reports of users being unable to unfollow these accounts are still concerning.

Instagram is facing backlash as users report issues searching for #Democrat and #DNC, with no results appearing and a “sensitive topic" warning shown instead. In contrast, searches for #Republican and #RNC works without problems.

While Meta hasn’t addressed the issue, many believe this could be intentional rather than a technical glitch. TechIssuesToday said it ran some tests and got the same result—a notice saying, “We’ve hidden these results" due to potentially sensitive content.
