WhatsApp has started the year 2025 by introducing a slew of features for its users as it aims to increase user interaction and their app usage time. The latest updates include new camera effects, selfie stickers, sticker pack sharing and faster reaction options.

In a blog post, the messaging app mentioned, “We are always working on making WhatsApp more fun and easier to use, so we’re excited to kick off the new year with new features and design updates to improve your experience."

WhatsApp New Update: What You Get

Camera effects

With the latest camera effects, users can now choose from 30 backgrounds, filters, and effects when taking and sending a video or photo in chats. This option allows users to transform the shots for more creative and personalised visuals, enhancing the overall messaging experience.

Selfie stickers

Next comes the selfie stickers feature. The tech giant has added this feature to allow users to transform their selfies into custom stickers. To do this, you simply need to tap the Create Sticker icon and select the camera option to take a selfie and create your sticker. It is to be noted that this feature is currently available for Android users and will be rolled out for iOS users soon.

Share a sticker pack

Is there a sticker pack you know your friend will love? Now, you have the option to share your favourite sticker packs directly in your chats, making it easier to recommend and discover new sticker options.

Quicker reactions

Lastly, users will now be able to double-tap a message to react quickly. This update also allows WhatsApp users to scroll through their most-used reactions, making it more convenient to express thoughts without typing messages.

The blog post further said, “We are looking forward to introducing more exciting features this year while continuing to offer private, secure messaging across the world."

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is joining hands with Google to tackle the big fake news and misinformation menace. The messaging app allowed users to forward unchecked content, images, and videos, which means they could be fake and alarmingly dangerous to share. Using this new feature, one can easily identify fake content/images and find their actual source.
