If you have bought the older Google Pixel phone models in the country or anywhere else, the company has brought some early Christmas presents for them. Google has confirmed that select Pixel models will be getting extended Android OS support, which means if your device has reached the end of the upgrade cycle, your deadline has gone up by a few years.

The details are available on a support page from Google where you will know if your Pixel phone is getting more life and support from the company.

Pixel Phones Extended Upgrades: Which Models Get It

The big news is that Google is now offering 2 more OS upgrades if you have the Pixel 6, Pixel 7 series or other select phones from the company. The Pixel 6 series came out in 2021 but the Indian buyers only got the Pixel 6a model, and even that is included in the new OS roadmap. Here are all the Pixel phones getting more upgrades:

– Pixel 6a

– Pixel 6

– Pixel 6 Pro

– Pixel 7a

– Pixel 7

– Pixel 7 Pro

– Pixel Fold

Out of there, people in India were able to buy the whole Pixel 7 series and the Pixel 6a models. The Pixel 7 lineup came out in 2022 which means you now get five years of OS upgrades. So, if you have a Pixel 7a, Pixel 7 or the 7 Pro model, you will now get up to Android 18 version that comes in 2027.

Google has mostly been good with the OS support for its Pixel phones, offering 3 years of support. The company went one step further by committing to 7 years of OS and security updates starting with the Pixel 8 series last year. These changes for the older Pixel phones mean if you have relied on them for a few years, they can carry on for some more time and you don’t need to upgrade right away.

Google has improved the quality of its devices over the years and while the company is offering longer OS support, we are hoping the products are able to withstand it for that duration.
