OpenAI chief executive officer (CEO) Sam Altman said he was amazed to see the pace at which India was adopting artificial intelligence ( AI) tools, in a social media post. “What’s happening with AI adoption in India right now is amazing to watch. We love to see the explosion of creativity – India is outpacing the world," Altman said in a post on X.

In February, Sam Altman highlighted India’s significance not just for AI but for OpenAI itself.

Speaking alongside Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi, Altman noted that India is OpenAI’s second-largest market, with user numbers tripling over the past year.

A Deloitte report has found that India is fast becoming a global leader in Agentic AI adoption, with over 80% of businesses actively working on autonomous agents.

The findings come from Deloitte’s State of GenAI (Fourth Wave) report, accessed by news outlet Moneycontrol, which offers an India-specific view on Generative AI (GenAI) and Agentic AI adoption.

According to the report, over 80% of Indian organisations are actively exploring autonomous agents, signalling a major shift towards Agentic AI.

The survey, which included 2,773 C-suite leaders across 14 countries, also found that around 70% of firms are eager to use GenAI for automation, while more than half are running over ten GenAI experiments.
