Facial recognition, social media scans and robodogs: How AI is aiding Trump’s immigration crackdown
Google is bringing new ability to its AI-powered Pixel Studio app that is available on a range of Pixel devices. The March 2025 update or Pixel Drop is the carrier of this new AI feature which now lets you create AI images of people. This is a big update because Google had issues with Gemini AI and its ability to create images of people, which forced the company’s chief Sundar Pichai to highlight it as an unacceptable error from the giant.
The company was forced to pause its AI image generator tool after its mistakes with historical figures. Many people were unimpressed with the results that Google’s Gemini AI image generator offered.
Google’s Prabhakar Raghavan explained the glitch earlier this year. He said the AI tool was finding it hard to differentiate between a wide range of people, and the AI model became extra cautious to avoid any major lapses and be offensive to anyone.
The Pixel Studio app update is now bringing the changes with some much-needed tweaks. Google clearly realises the need to be safe with these AI tools, which is why you can only create AI images of people using text prompts, and not with the help of another image for reference.
One of the examples of this new feature, as given by Google, is a prompt like “a woman playing basketball in the park." The company will have to be mindful of how these characters are generated, their skin tones, and social profiles are matching the demands of the prompt written by the user.
The pace of AI features rolling out has worried experts and it is vital that companies adhere to stringent tests before releasing any new ones in the near future. Apple is already seeing the perils of showcasing unreleased features, but at least it has decided to keep it under the wraps rather than make it available in its half-baked avatar.
